Overview
Nizhny Novgorod city is the most economically-progressive and reformist in Russia. The history decreed that the city should be the “heart of Mother Russia”, situated as it is in the very center of the European part of the Russian Federation, on the banks of the River Volga.
Nizhny Novgorod recently regained its original name, having been renamed as Gorky in 1932 in honor of the celebrated author Maxim Gorky, who was born in the city. It has an advantageous geographical location for economic and social development. Historically, Nizhny Novgorod has always been a leader in Russia, from the time the city was founded in 1221 as a defense post at its strategic location at the confluence of the Volga and Oka rivers, to its days as Russia’s leading center of commerce before the Bolshevik Revolution, and even as a major industrial center under Soviet rule. A great number of historical, architectural and cultural monuments remained in the city. UNESCO lists Nizhny Novgorod as one of 100 cities constituting world historical and cultural value.

NIZHNY NOVGOROD KREMLIN
Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is a historical center of Nizhny Novgorod, the city heart, and the place that the history of Nizhny Novgorod was started. Nowadays Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is said as the grandest and the most majestic medieval fortress extant in central Russia. As per the experts, there is not any similar construction that would have the same level difference between its two parts (the Kremlin is located on the hill) and so it was one of the most perfect engineering-fortification erections of its time. Today Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is not only the historical center of Nizhny Novgorod but the location of the city and the region executive, the political center. Inside the Kremlin walls, there are the city
authorities, the region governor administration, the region ministries, and the legislation authorities. The memorials, the cultural and religious sights are harmoniously located near the political life – Art Gallery, Mikhaylo-Arkhangelsky Cathedral, Eternal Flame, and others.

NIZHNY NOVGOROD DRAMA THEATRE
Nizhny Novgorod theatre life is rich and many-sided. You will find a huge variety of genres within a long time distance on the Nizhny Novgorod scenes. All-Russian famous actors, national artists of the USSR, and the Russian Federation come to Nizhny Novgorod with tours and performances often. Being in Nizhny Novgorod you can plan your time and go to the theatre and see legendary actors of Russia. Also, the Academy of Drama and a few theatre studios work in Nizhny Novgorod.

MUSEUM “RUSSIAN LOCOMOTIVES”
There is a free museum “Russian Locomotives” in an open area in Nizhny Novgorod. It is located in the village Sortirovochny in Kanavinsky district of Nizhny Novgorod, far from the main “tourist” trails, but when it’s possible you should bring your child, especially a boy, to this place. The museum has 15 locomotives copies issued in Russia, the Soviet Union, and other countries in the XX century. You can climb any locomotive! Almost everything you will find in there is real, however, somewhat was dismantled. The territory is cleaned regularly. The minimum time to spend here is about 20 minutes ( to see the territory only). However, travelling with children it’s better to leave for this place an hour and half.

LIMPOPO ZOO
Limpopo zoo is actively developing on the territory of more than 7 hectares in the Moscow region of the capital of the Volga Federal District since 2003. The symbol of the Nizhny Novgorod is “the wise coastline of the night forest” – an owl, the appearance of which became a harbinger of the creation of the fabulous country “Limpopo” in Nizhny Novgorod.
More than 270 species of animals live on the territory of the zoo complex, many of them are listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and can not be found in any other zoo in Russia. At the moment, the collection of animals totals more than 1500 individuals from all over the planet. Many of them can be hand-fed with special food, and the inhabitants of the Russian Village contact area walk among visitors without any fences.
